Not too common in the city where I grew up. Occasionally people might raise them on the rooftop or something. I remember when I was very young my grandfather bought my mother a gift of little baby chicks and she had no idea what to do with them. They just ran around the basement for a few weeks.
We raised chickens when I was a kid. Nothing more familiar than a rooster crowing as the sun comes up…
