Federico Garcia Lorca was an extraordinary poet, painter, composer, actor, director, playwright, and socialist. We celebrated his June birthday on Arts Express today with a short selection of his poems read in English by myself and the wonderful Mary Murphy.

You can hear the poems and a brief intro as broadcast on WBAI 99.5FM NYC by clicking on the grey triangle above.

  1. Thanks Jack.
    That was REALLY great.

    I’ve often heard ‘the name’,
    the ‘myth’,…
    but could never work through
    his work.

You and Mary made an enjoy-ible sandwich,
    for my morning milk.

    ‘Duende’,…
    I always knew,
    ..it was MORE than mushrooms(!),
    in my feet!

    Thanks Jack.

    • …not that there’s anything wrong with mushrooms…

Thanks, Dennis, glad you enjoyed it. We got to see his house in Barcelona when we visited and learned a lot about him from the excellent guides there.

  2. Thanks. I never really heard (of read, of course) his poetry. Of course, I had
heard of him because he was killed by the Franco forces.
New York must have been a pretty grim place when he visited!!
    Nice segment!!
