Had enough of that old-time military jingoism? Stephen Crane’s your man. The Red Badge of Courage author penned a series of poems called War is Kind that taken together are devastating reading.     • A lot of us high school students were assigned to read The Red Badge of Courage when I was growing up, but the poetry was new to me, too. I just bought a biography of him that I’m eager to read in order to learn more about his life.
