Federico Garcia Lorca was an extraordinary poet, painter, composer, actor, director, playwright, and socialist. We celebrated his June birthday on Arts Express today with a short selection of his poems read in English by myself and the wonderful Mary Murphy.
You can hear the poems and a brief intro as broadcast on WBAI 99.5FM NYC by clicking on the grey triangle above.
That was REALLY great.
I’ve often heard ‘the name’,
but could never work through
You and Mary made an enjoy-ible sandwich,
for my morning milk.
I always knew,
..it was MORE than mushrooms(!),
in my feet!
…not that there’s anything wrong with mushrooms…
Thanks, Dennis, glad you enjoyed it. We got to see his house in Barcelona when we visited and learned a lot about him from the excellent guides there.
*That was Granada, not Barcelona! We were in both cities last year, and of course with my lousy memory, I mixed them up.
Thanks. I never really heard (of read, of course) his poetry. Of course, I had
heard of him because he was killed by the Franco forces.
New York must have been a pretty grim place when he visited!!
Thanks, Marilyn. I was familiar with some of the plays, but the poems were new to me as well.
Jack, I enjoyed this so much! So well done by both of you!
