Yes, exactly. Magicians like to use that analogy a lot with one another. On the surface, to the audience, everything looks normal. But underneath, the performer is furiously paddling, doing his sleight-of-hand that makes the trick work.
And I guess that applies to most good performing artists; they use “art to conceal art.” The audience should never see them sweating–it should all seem effortless and delightful.
