before you got it right?
It’s pretty much a scattershot approach: you set the shutter speed fast to freeze the motion, and then keep your finger pressed down on the shutter in continuous mode as soon as you sense action beginning.
Then you pray that out of the dozens of shots, you got something…

Jack in your experience, what’s the best time of day to visit the salt marsh?
For birds, usually early morning or around dusk. But I got these photos yesterday around 1pm, so you never know. It’s a good time of year. When I got there, it was low tide, which is much better for walking the shoreline. Sometimes at high tide you are completely blocked from the rest of the marsh area.
Right now, there are thousands and thousands of little 1 inch fiddler crabs all along the shoreline popping in and out of their sand holes in unison. It’s pretty eerie.
