I watched an interview with her where she said that her greatest, deepest regret was that she did not become a classical pianist. She wanted to be known as a Black classical pianist. She had the chops and was supposed to get a scholarship to Curtis Institute of Music in Pennsylvania, but they turned her down because of her color.
Imagine, had she gotten her wish, never hearing her singing voice.
Thanks. What a great artist she was! Thom

Thanks Jack. Fate sometimes outs us on the right path despite our own ideas about what that path should be. Thom
