Dion: Song for Sam Cooke

Monday morning, Dion, now pushing 80 years old, sings “Here in America,” his moving tribute to Sam Cooke, with whom Dion toured. The harmonies by the unseen Paul Simon raise it to a whole other level.

  1. Thanks Jack.
    A ‘good’ Monday morning to ya!

    I love it, when someone can make a ‘mistake’;
    calmly stop,
    clear their voice,
    …and begin again.

    No cut. No excuses. No embarrassment.
    No problem! 😊
    Ain’t that…..the good Life. 🙃

  2. THANK YOU JACK FOR A VERY POIGNANT POSTING: MY COMMENT IS THAT WHEN THE WORDS ‘1962 AND SO MUCH I DIDN’T KNOW HERE IN AMERICA’ WERE LISTENED TO I FELT THE TEARS OF REALIZATION IN MY EYES. ALSO REALLY LIKED AT THE END WHEN DION SAID THERE WERE PLACES THEY TRAVELED TO WHERE SAM COOKE WOULD NEED TO SAY REGARDING DION; ‘HE’S HERE WITH ME’.

    • It wasn’t common at all to have performers of different races perform on the same bill in the South at that time. It was so nice to hear how well they got along.
