Let’s be frank, there’ll probably never be a cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” that’s better than the original, but this version sung by British singer and guitar player Mary Spender and Reina Del Cid is quite good. Extra city noises free of charge.

This is one of those songs that I’ve heard often, but I never knew the name of it, nor who sang it. Reina and Toni do a nice job on this Pure Prairie League song.

Covering Annie Lennox is a heavy lift, and I was skeptical, but when the harmonies of Josh and Reina at 2:30 started to kick in, I had a big grin on my face.

Monday morning, another excellent cover of a lesser known Beatles song from Josh, Carson, Reina, and Toni.
A John Lennon penned song, it was released as the B-Side to the “Get Back” single, but for some reason it was cut from the Let It Be album.

Reina del Cid with a smart lyric about a vain queen from Greek mythology who now makes her home in the sky.

I think “Your Song” was the first Elton John song I had ever heard, around 1970. I remember thinking it was cool writing a song about writing a song ineptly. Reina del Cid and Toni Lindgren with a lovely version of the Elton John/Bernie Taupin classic.

Reina del Cid and Toni Lindgren sing the Everly Brothers classic. With Toni nailing the electric guitar parts and the harmonies, this is one I listen to several times in a row.

Okay, so “The Tennessee Waltz” is a song I’ve hated all my life. When I would hear it on the radio or when somebody on a TV variety show would sing it, I would immediately turn it off. It seemed to me like an endless, very boring song. But…wow. This version by Reina del Cid and Toni Lindgren on guitar is just great. First time I really heard the lyrics, and Toni’s guitar playing is wonderful.
